I walked out to the van this morning to find this:

It reminds me of a note that someone left on my van a few years – in that case, someone was complaining that the van was too big, took up too much space, and shouldn’t be allowed on the street. My reaction on both occasions was the same: How can I possibly take up even more space?

Except when your crankshaft explodes in Petaluma, CA, driving a 15 passenger van is a great thing when it comes to touring and carrying all your gear around. It does, however, make driving and parking back at home a bit more difficult. For some reason, a note like this makes driving the van around town worth it.

I’m not sure quite what it says about me, but all I want to do now is figure out a way to take up 3 parking spaces right in front of this fine poets house. The van is big enough where I may just be able to do that. Now I have something to shoot for.

Necessary accoutrements for what seems like the first beautiful evening in Somerville. Davis square is jumping tonight, so it’s time to partake.

phase one, complete

phase one of the new record is complete. we had 30+ new songs which we narrowed down to 17 for recording. once everything’s done, we’ll choose which ones are going to make it to the record. i’m sure there will be lots of discussions about which songs make it to the final. but it’s a great feeling to know that we have more than we need.

now it’s back to boston this afternoon to do lots more guitars, keyboards, and vocals, of course.

The whole crew is taking some much needed rest – for ears,fingers, & psyches. This morning brought a totally gorgeous mountain day after a gloomy yesterday.

Lots of hiking and a trip to Harpoon Brewery before more guitar work tonight.

Vermont’s “little grand canyon”…ummm, ok?

While Ben and Mike toiled away getting more bass and jaguar parts finished, Loki & i went to investigate Quechee dam.

The dam is on the Ottauquechee River, and holds back the waters of Dewey’s Mill Pond before they flow over the 30-foot Mill Pond Falls and through Quechee Gorge. Apparently this is called Vermont’s “Little Grand Canyon.”

It’s impressive as dams go, but i think the title “Little Grand Canyon” (even with the ‘little’ in there), is stretching it. I guess this dam has one hell of a big ego.

And here’s Loki, doing his best Regal Beagle impression as a malamute nearby goes nuts on his leash and almost bites his owner.
